Open Positions
The majority of our work in the lab is computational, but some of our projects provide an opportunity to interact with experimental groups. We are generally looking for candidates with a background or strong interest in data science, infectious diseases, epidemiology, clinical informatics, and biostatistics.
Data scientists + engineers
We are currently recruiting full-time data scientists and software engineers within the following two specializations:
- AI and machine learning operations
- Clinical informatics and database engineering
General qualifications include proficiency in Python, R, and/or SQL; expertise in data science best practices; interest in infectious diseases; and a track record of research productivity in biomedical informatics, clinical informatics, and/or machine learning. To submit an application for this position, please use the UC Irvine Jobs online listing:
For questions about the expectations of the position or your application, please contact the principal investigator, Ted Pak:
Postdocs
We are actively recruiting postdoctoral candidates in the same areas of expertise as the research scientist positions above. Appointment as a Postdoctoral Scholar requires a recent or anticipated doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, or equivalent). Qualified candidates are encouraged to contact Ted Pak and inquire about potential opportunities:
Graduate students
Prospective graduate student researchers (including PhD, MD/PhD, MD, and Masters’ candidates) should inquire with Ted Pak regarding research opportunities:
If you are not already in a UCI graduate degree program, you will have to apply through the regular process at UC Irvine, e.g., via any of the Masters or PhD programs in the Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health or the School of Medicine.
Undergraduates
Undergraduates usually work for course credit or volunteer. You can obtain course credit by enrolling in Bio Sci 199, as I am a faculty mentor within that program. Note that we are a “Packet B” laboratory, so the paperwork to finish onboarding can take 1-2 months to process. Please contact Ted Pak and inquire about current opportunities:
